Tennis At The Pavilion
Pavilion Tennis took over the very run down tennis courts at the Albert Road Recreation Ground in 2002. We began a coaching programme that has proved to be very successful from the outset.
We have have continued to build upon this and won the Lawn Tennis Association Park of the Year 2008, Former Executive Director of the Tennis Foundation, Sue Mappin, who selected Albert Road Rec for the award, said: “If I could, I would look to replicate what Robby’s created at every local authority park in the country. “It’s a great example of a park that used to suffer from anti-social behaviour being transformed into a fantastic community facility.” In 2010 the Pavilion attracted funding from Lawn Tennis Association, Tennis Foundation and Haringey Council to upgrade the tennis courts with floodlights. Our programme has flourished and is going from strength to strength, the business model is now a showcase model adopted by others throughout the country and abroad.
Our programme includes both adults and children, it runs all year round and includes individual and group coaching, children holiday camps, cardio tennis, free play, social play, match play and more!
Haringey has been selected by the Tennis Foundation as a tennis ‘hotspot’ in recognition of the borough’s persistence in encouraging local residents to take part in the sport mainly due to work by Pavilion Tennis. We were also acknowledged by The Tennis Foundation as an Official Beacon Site (Beacon Status is awarded to sites that offer quality and affordable organised tennis activities and also some free tennis opportunities for the local community).
Pavilion Sports & Café runs 6 full size tennis courts & 4 mini tennis courts in Albert Road Recreation Ground in the London Borough of Haringey. To celebrate our new tennis courts and floodlights we had a grand opening in June 2010 with Sue Barker and Greg Rusedski.
